About the Event
Accidents happen. People get hurt, sick, or lost. The temperature drops, the wind picks up, and it starts to rain. Would you know what to do? By learning a few basic skills, you can make the difference between a good outcome and a bad one – and maybe even save a life.
Wilderness First Aid (WFA) is a hands-on training designed to meet the needs of trip leaders, camp staff, outdoor enthusiasts, and individuals working in remote locations. WFA is a 16-hour (two day) course that focuses on the basic skills of: response and assessment, musculoskeletal and soft tissue injuries, environmental and medical emergencies, survival skills, and more.
Upon completion, you will receive a WFA certification (valid for two years)
This two-part class runs 9:00 am-5:30 pm both Tuesday and Wednesday. You must have a current CPR/AED for WFA to be valid. CPR/AED can be added for a small fee of $35.
Learning takes place in an outdoor sheltered setting. Come prepared for any weather. Early summer can bring warm sunshine or stormy conditions. Camping is free on site or you can stay at a hotel in town.

Nick Gordon, Wilderness EMT, is owner and lead instructor for NOW Outdoors LLC. He teaches wilderness adventure courses for UW-Milwaukee and CPR/Wilderness First Aid for the SOLO School of Wilderness Medicine, the Emergency Care and Safety Institute, and the American Heart Association. Since 2009, Nick has been teaching and guiding wilderness adventure, medicine, and survival courses throughout the Midwest and abroad including Nepal, Canada, Peru, and deep in the Amazon Jungle.
